  • Chalk or paper

How to run it

  1. Set a toy on paper or a paving slab in bright sun.
  2. Draw around its shadow.
  3. Return an hour later and draw again in a new colour.

Making it work for every age

Younger children: They chase and stamp on the shadows while the others draw.

Older children: Turn it into a sundial and work out how the shadow tracks the time.
