Nature scavenger hunt

A list of things to find on a walk — one line per child, pitched at their level.

  • Outdoors
  • About an hour
  • Active
  • Free
  • Ages 3–12

What you need

  • Paper and pens
  • A bag for treasures

How to run it

  1. Write a different list for each child before you leave.
  2. Set a turnaround time rather than a distance.
  3. Compare finds on a bench halfway.
  4. Lay everything out at home and photograph the collection.

Making it work for every age

Younger children: Their list is pictures, not words: something red, something round, something soft.

Older children: Give them a photography challenge instead — five shots that tell the story of the walk.

Keep it safe

Agree a no-eating-anything-found rule before you set off.
