What you need

  • Cupcake mix or basic ingredients
  • Icing
  • Sprinkles

How to run it

  1. Bake and cool the cakes.
  2. Set out decorations in bowls.
  3. Ten minutes on the clock to decorate.
  4. Award silly prizes: most colourful, most structural, most edible.

Making it work for every age

Younger children: Sprinkles duty. That's the whole job and they'll love it.

Older children: They handle the bake and the buttercream, and invent the judging categories.

Oven is an adult or over-11 job.
